Warcraft Orc

by Elizabeth Midgley

Concept, Audience, and Purpose:

"Me not that kinda Orc"

Central concept:

During my Major Project, I will design and create a male Orc who will fit seamlessly into the Warcraft universe. I will primarily use existing Warcraft Orcs to influence my design; however, to create a unique look, I will also integrate inspirations from real-world creatures, peoples, and cultures, along with nods to other variants of historical orc depictions. Over the years, Orcs have often been depicted as brutal, savage and unintelligent beings, a stereotype which has been problematic due to its links to real-world cultures. One of my primary aims in the design will be to create a strong and intelligent Orc with agency, breaking some of these historical issues surrounding Orcs and race.

A successful outcome for this project will include three 3D model variations of my Orc character, each tailored for a specific use. The first variant will be a sculpted 3D printable model; the second variant will be an ultra-realistic model that can be animated and used in cutscenes or films; the third variant will be a game-ready low poly model that could be integrated into the game World of Warcraft. Creating a character in three styles will provide an excellent opportunity to develop my skills in adapting to different needs as a 3D artist.

I have chosen to create a male orc character to challenge myself with this piece and learn to produce the rugged masculine forms required to create a convincing Orc. I have a lot of experience sculpting human female characters, and I feel that doing something out of my comfort zone will help to expand my portfolio significantly.

Three 3d model variants as depicted in the Warcraft universe:

Intended audience:

Blizzard’s Warcraft audience is vast and spans far beyond just the Warcraft games. Because the content within the Warcraft universe has spanned so many different media forms, a diverse audience is dedicated to the franchise. Therefore, when creating my concept, I must consider all potential audiences for each model to ensure the best reception.

Print model

An excellent example of an event where this model might be sold is Blizzcon, a convention run by Activision Blizzard, which had around 40,000 attendance in 2018. Many attendees may not be World of Warcraft players; they could also be non-gamer fans of the Warcraft universe, model collectors, fantasy fans, or general convention goers. Therefore, the models created for these conventions must be suitably impressive to all of these audiences, as they are intended to spark a passion for the Warcraft universe in any viewer.

Film model

Another example where my model could face a mixed audience would be in a film or a cutscene with the high-fidelity model. Many audience members watching the film or cutscene may not be exclusively Warcraft fans. Instead, these groups would likely include fans of other popular fantasy and action media such as The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. Because of this diverse audience, I must ensure that the model I create for this is equally impressive to wider audiences.

Game model

The video game model will be the one which reaches the least diverse audience, as players of the game World of Warcraft will mainly view it. Though this group does include players of all ages and backgrounds with a broad range of interests and playstyles, so I should still ensure a high-quality model. There is also the potential for this model to be viewed by non-players through marketing material such as trailers and gameplay footage.

Purpose:

The ultimate purpose of all models will be to entertain and inform the viewer. Therefore, each model should suitably inform through visual design about the character’s backstory. They should also be well crafted, enjoyable to look at, and functionally fit for purpose.

When looking at the examples above of models from the Warcraft franchise, in each example, the viewer can guess some backstories as well as the character’s current standing from the visual design. This is demonstrated through colour theory (Gold for royalty, desaturated colours for villains etc.), shape theory (soft shapes for good characters, square shapes for lawful characters, and sharp shapes for aggressive characters etc.), and other VFX (lighting, atmosphere etc.) and presentation (camera angle, focal length etc.).

Historical and modern representation of Orcs

"It's not easy being Green"

A brief history of orcs:

According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, “Orc” is likely derived from the Latin word Orcus meaning “Hell” (Etymology, 2019). However, the word’s earliest recorded use in English was in Beowulf, where the living dead are referred to as Orcnéas (TV Tropes, nd.). The more recent revival of the word seems to stem back to J. R. R. Tolkien’s writing, where he uses the now well-known name “Orc”. Tolkein likely derived his naming convention for these beings from Beowulf, which he is known to have been inspired by.

According to Tolkien Gateway, the conception of the word Orc was between 1917-1920 in J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Book of Lost Tales “all that race were bred by Melko of the subterranean heats and slime. Their hearts were of granite and their bodies deformed.” (Tolkien Gateway, 2022). This first depiction of Orcs as beings of low intellect used only for their physical value continues throughout Tolkien’s writing and has influenced many modern representations.

Orc Army on the march, by John Howe (Reddit, 2019)

The next mainstream depiction of Orcs following Tolkien was in Dungeons & Dragons in 1974. In Dungeons & Dragons, the Orcs were described similarly to Tolkien’s work, though they had pig-like heads. At this time, in all representations, Orcs would be continually depicted as disposable and evil. This othering of Orcs would continue into Warhammer, where they would finally get their signature green skins. According to Eurogamer, the story goes that a painter had run out of their usual Orc paints and decided to cover the Orc models in a wash of green tone (N. Reuben, 2020).

Some writers, such as Mendez Hodes, argue that the idea of a ‘warrior race’ is rooted in racism throughout history and that early writers likely took inspiration from historical wars (J. M. Hodes, 2019). In many works, orcs are still portrayed as savage and violent, continuing to perpetrate this racial stereotype. However, some authors and creators have begun to depict orcs with more agency and intelligence, leading to more complex and diverse portrayals of orcs.

In the Warcraft universe, however, Orcs have unique cultures and societies, often portrayed as honourable warriors loyal to their clans. While they have been involved in conflicts with other races and factions, they are not always depicted as evil or purely aggressive. Some Orcs, such as Durotan, have been the protagonists of numerous Warcraft stories, such as Warcraft: Lord of the Clans and World of Warcraft: Rise of the Horde.

It would be great to contribute to a more inclusive and diverse representation of Orcs in my work. I want my Orc to be a strong warrior who is also intelligent and empathetic; I hope that I will be able to bring this across in my depiction.

Below, I’ve included two cinematics from the Warcraft universe which depict Orcs with empathy and intelligence rather than as aggressive brutes, characteristics that I would like to replicate in my work.

Model design differences and similarities

"We will never be slaves! But we will be conquerors!"

Each of the three model variations I create will have a unique set of requirements and focuses, each different from the last. For example, 3D print models require a lot of detail and must be watertight. 3D models for film and videos prioritise visual appeal and require high-quality textures and modern hair simulation technologies. Finally, 3D models for games require optimised geometry and baked textures to ensure smooth performance. Understanding these key differences will be essential for my Major project, and the following section will contain a more detailed explanation of the requirements of each model.

Similarities across all models:

Even though the three models I will be creating each have specific requirements, they will all share certain similarities in how the character is visually portrayed. Key visual elements such as the Orc’s armour, hairstyle, and facial features should remain consistent across each model. This consistent approach will ensure that the model is easy for audiences to recognise regardless of the setting it’s in. It will be an exciting challenge for me to attempt to keep enough attributes consistent while sculpting in the distinct style required for each model type.

Film Model:

To create a hyper-realistic Orc model that is ready for film, it is necessary to use a range of high-end industry software and techniques. This will ensure that the model looks as realistic as those seen in AAA video game cinematics. I will use a combination of Zbrush, Maya, Mari, and Unreal Engine – all chosen because they have some of the best industry-leading performance.

Zbrush:
I have chosen to create my high-poly model in Zbrush, as it is the perfect tool for handling incredibly dense models with a high poly count. I will carefully sculpt intricate details such as scars, wrinkles, and prominent pore areas by hand, potentially utilising the Geometry HD feature for added depth. Additionally, I will create hyper-realistic eyes with sculpted irises that will be covered by clear corneas. To prepare for the possibility of animating the model later, I will ensure that the mouth, nose, and ears contain enough detail, including full gums, tongue, teeth, and uvula.

Maya:
I will use Maya to create a low-poly animation-friendly version as it’s the software that I’m most familiar with. As this model is for film, I can afford to use a slightly higher polycount model than I would use for in-game. Somewhere between 50,000 and 150,000 should be suitable, so I will aim for a target polycount of around 120,000 for the low-poly to ensure a smooth silhouette. I will also use Maya’s XGen hair system to create all of the body hair, from course head hair to subtle peach fuzz.

Mari:
I have chosen to use Mari instead of Substance Painter for my texturing due to its impressive high-end features. For example, its 3D projection painting tool will allow me to add additional pore details at the texturing phase in case I feel that I don’t have enough already from Zbrush. Additionally, Mari is an excellent choice for UDIM workflow and can handle up to 32k textures. Although Mari has these superior features compared to Substance Painter, it does come with higher system requirements and costs. However, I’m hoping that I will be able to get a student licence and that my personal computer will be able to handle the software. If my computer can’t run Mari, I always have the option of using the University PCs or switching to Substance Painter instead.

Unreal:
Finally, I will use Unreal Engine 5 for the final rendering of my film-ready Orc. I have chosen Unreal because I want to take advantage of the engine’s dynamic lighting and advanced Subsurface Scattering. If I decide to do some short animation, I may choose to use the plug-in Ziva to create realistic muscle structures to assist with skin deformation. Additionally, I will use Niagra to create ambient particle effects such as dust particles, fog, or embers.

Game Model:

To optimize the performance of the Orc character model in the game, I will need to follow a high-to-low poly pipeline. Firstly, I will create the high poly sculpt in Zbrush, adding details like dents, scratches, and scars and giving the armour a thicker and more stylized appearance than what would be used for a film. Using a high-poly for baking allows me to add more depth to the model than possible through hand painting, making it more detailed and realistic.

Next, I will create a low-poly version in Maya, focusing on creating good joint topology for future animation. Game models in the Warcraft Universe often have between 10,000 and 50,000 polys. This model will aim to have around 40,000 polygons, erring at the higher end of this range to allow for a smooth silhouette while ensuring that the game runs smoothly without lag or performance issues.

Finally, I will use Substance Painter or Mari to bake the model; then hand-paint the textures to achieve the classic hand-painted look characteristic of Blizzard games. It’s crucial to me that the in-game model looks like it’s part of the Warcraft universe, using thick boxy armour, fully rendered skin, and hand-painted cloth. The hand-painted look is essential as it adds authenticity to the character and makes it feel like a genuine part of the Warcraft universe.

Print model:

When creating a model for 3D printing, there are important differences to consider compared to creating a model for a game or film. Since the 3D print will be a physical object, it is crucial to ensure that the model is structurally sound and watertight to avoid any issues during printing. Additionally, there may be limitations with the University’s 3D printers, such as the size of the printer bed, available materials, printing speed, and printer resolution. It will be necessary to do further research on the specific printers available at the University closer to when I’m ready to print.

When sculpting the model for 3D printing, it’s important that I keep a few things in mind to ensure a high-quality result. Firstly, Xgen hair strands won’t work because they are too fine for printing, and the in-game hair would be too simple and look out of place. Therefore, I plan to sculpt the hair from a solid mass and add details using curve brush strands. Secondly, thin or delicate clothing might not print well, especially if is any cloth, armour, or accessories hanging off the character. I will have to thicken all clothing elements and emphasise details like folds and wrinkles while ensuring that the cloth never becomes too thin in case it causes structural weakness when printing. Thirdly, I’m unsure if I’ll be painting the model or not, so I’ll either need to print sculpted eyeballs using the concave iris method or paint them on myself afterwards. I also need to make sure that any subtle details, like pores, are more pronounced so they show up in the final print. Lastly, I need to give the Orc a dynamic pose that will be not only interesting as a figurine but also supported and balanced for printing and display.

When thinking about what is most important for a 3D printed model for display, its primary function should be to look aesthetically pleasing. For this reason, it is essential to ensure that the printer can print to the correct level of detail that will be sculpted into the model and vice versa. If the University printers aren’t sufficient, I will consider sending the model off to a printing service or asking friends who have resin printers for help. The more detail I include in the model and the higher the print’s quality, the more time and material it will cost. I will try not to go overboard, but I do want the model to look really detailed as it will be an excellent addition to my portfolio.

Anatomical study and reference

"Lok'tar ogar! For The Horde!"

In the Warcraft universe, the anatomy of Orcs is an exaggerated version of human anatomy, with each anatomical zone being larger and more powerful than a human’s. This includes their muscles, bones, and even their teeth. This section delves into each anatomical zone and the references collected for each area. The references I have collected for human anatomy are mainly taken from the book Anatomy for Sculptors, which provides detailed information on the human form. To design the model, I will study basic human anatomy and then exaggerate the proportions to create the hulking fantasy form typical of Warcraft Orcs.

Full Body

As pictured above, Orc anatomy is an exaggerated version of human anatomy. Their physical features are exaggerated to the extreme, including height, muscle density, muscle striations, veins, etc., which all emphasise their physical ability. In addition, their sheer width and height make them easily recognisable as fierce warriors.

Head Anatomy

In contrast to the proportions of human facial anatomy that we know well, orcs have a much more distinct look with vastly different spacing between many of the facial elements. The space between their nose and mouth is elongated, pushing their small snout-like nose much further up the face. They have deep-set eyes which sit further into the skull than in Human anatomy, giving them a menacing look. Their ears are pointed at the tips looking almost elven and are proportionally very large. The slope of an Orc’s brow is sharp and steep, causing their forehead to appear relatively small, and their eyes to sit closer to 1/3 of the way down the face, unlike humans where their eyes sit at 1/2. Finally, the Orc’s wide mouths often sit with the jaw forward, allowing the tusks to be exposed and giving Orcs the classical brutish look that’s common in Orc depictions.

Teeth

Looking at the teeth and mouths of Orcs, the first thing to notice is that their teeth, particularly their canines jut out prominently, the lower canines sitting at the front due to an underbite. This forward-thrusting lower jaw with elongated lower canines gives them their iconic “tusked” look. Orcs are also often depicted with embellishments on their teeth, including rings, carvings, and other accessories. Orcs are omnivores, so their front teeth are designed for ripping chunks of flesh off their kills, while their back teeth are similar to humans’ for grinding food. The Orc’s jaw anatomy and tooth shape are similar to those found in certain breeds of monkeys, making it relatively easy to get real-world references to assist with my sculpture.

Neck and Shoulders

Looking at the neck and shoulders, the Orc’s oversized trapezius muscles anchor their heads low, making them appear as if they’re emerging directly from the shoulders. They also likely have a defined curve in their spines, coupled with their large upper back muscles, causing their heads to jut forward. Unlike humans, where the anterior neck muscles and tendons are visible, these details are obscured in orcs due to their stout necks.

Trunk

As seen above, the Orc’s torso resembles human anatomy but is exaggerated; every muscle, tendon, and vein is accentuated in much more detail, easily seen due to their low body fat. I will be able to study bodybuilders’ physiques for some elements of the form; however, I will need to increase the sheer width and bulk significantly to match the towering form of the Orcs.

Arms

As with the Torso, the anatomical structure of the Arms are very similar to that seen in humans. These body parts at least will not require too much alteration from a pure human form.

Hands

Orc hands are much broader and bulkier than human hands. Where human hands are typically similar in size to their face, an Orc’s hand is much larger than their entire head. Their hands may be quite calloused, with thick skin on the palms from frequent hard labour.

Legs

As with the Torso and Arms, the anatomical structure of the Legs are also very similar to that seen in humans but much bulkier.

Feet

Orc feet must be large enough to support their colossal frame. Although their feet anatomically match a human’s, they are significantly larger to accommodate their bulky physique. They also include the same bulging veins and muscle striations seen in other areas.

Research elements:

Frostwolf Clan

The Frostwolf Clan are known amongst the Orcs as one of the more peaceful and honourable clans. During the rise of the Burning Legion, the Frostwolves were among the few clans to resist being corrupted by the Fel. They were branded an enemy by many other clans during the resulting war and have remained largely isolated since then. They live in harsh environments in Frostfire Ridge and rely on hunting and gathering to sustain their peaceful shamanic lifestyle.

The warriors of the Frostwolf clan often have very close relationships with the Frost Wolves of Draenor, a bond that can be seen among many of the Frostwolf characters in World of Warcraft. A particularly notable reference for me will be Durotan, leader of the Frostwolves, and his wolf companion Snowsong.

Commonly used clothing materials

Frost Wolf Pelt:
Frost wolves are a large breed of arctic wolf who share a homeland with the Frostwolf clan in Frostfire Ridge. Their pelts are typically a pale greyish-white colour with a slight blue tint and have a dense and insulating texture. “These wolves hunt with their orcish partners, keeping them warm when their clothes are not enough and alerting them about strangers. And in return, the clan makes sure the wolves are well fed, that their injuries are healed, and that their cubs need not fear predators scouring the mountains during the birthing times.” (Wowpedia, Frost Wolf)

Clefthoof Hide:
Clefthooves are large, hairy rhinoceros-like beasts native to Draenor in areas frequently hunted by the Frostwolf tribe. They have thick, valuable leather hide, typically used for armour, bags, and belts. “Large enough to quake the ground, covered with a thick valuable pelt, and armed with enormous tusks, these gigantic beasts are a hunter’s most treasured prize and worst nightmare rolled into one. The meat of a single adult clefthoof can feed an orc clan for days, but their inclination to travel in large packs makes them dangerous prey – beware their devastating headbutt or swiping attacks with their formidable tusks.” (Wowpedia, Clefthoof)

Clefthoof Horns and Ivory:
The Clefthooves horns are often used to craft the handles of weapons and are used decoratively to adorn armour. It is a solid and resilient material, making it suitable for many purposes. “It appears that ancient orcs hunted clefthoof and used their neck plating as ritual ornamentation for various sites. The Ancestral Grounds is an example of this. It is known that the animals would migrate every winter, with the Frostwolf clan – who hunted the herds alongside their frost wolves – following in their wake.” (Wowpedia, Clefthoof)
“Wooly Clefthooves are clefthooves found in the Bladespire Ravine of Frostfire Ridge.” (Wowpedia, Wooly Clefthoof)

Common Metals: Frostwolf Orcs use very little metal in their armour, preferring it for studs and buckles rather than whole metal pieces of protective gear. Higher-ranking Orcs can sometimes be seen wearing leather armour that includes metal plates. Occasionally a very high ranking Orc will have a weapon made of iron or another common metal, such as with The Doomhammer originating from the  Blackrock Clan who worked closely with the Frostwolves before the first war. “Orcs wear a variety of clothing styles, from furs and hides in some clans to heavy metal armor in others. They favor clothes of hide, and armor and arm themselves with a variety of gear.” (Wowpedia, Orc)

Nomadic Influences

The Frostwolf Clan, dwelling in Frostfire Ridge, typically settle in encampments which include homes constructed from animal hides stretched over wooden frames. These tents are designed to trap warmth efficiently to protect the clan members from the harsh winter cold. The Frostwolf Clan’s armour designs of fur-lined leather and metal plates inscribed with intricate details are reminiscent of Mongolian clothing and armour. http://scienceline.ucsb.edu/getkey.php?key=7008 In addition, their close bond with their wolf companions is similar to the relationship between Mongols and their horses. https://www.historyonthenet.com/mongols-nomads-and-their-animals

Hunter/Gatherer

The diet of the Frostwolf Orcs is heavily meat-based, and given their close relationship with the Frost Wolves it is likely that the clan use their wolf meat with one dies of natural causes. Christie Golden’s book, Lord of the Clans, describes a moment when Thrall asks the spirit of the Wilds for assistance when their food sources are running low. This excerpt included below is a wonderful example of how the Frostwolf clan is intelligent and respectful of nature and all living beings, even when they are in dire need.

Thrall closed his eyes and extended his mind. Spirit of the Wilds, who breathes life into all, I ask for your favor. We will take no more than we need to feed the hungry of our clan. I ask you, Spirit of the deet, to sacrifice yourself for us. We will not waste any of your gifts, and we will honour you. Many lives depend upon the surrendering of one.

He hoped the words were right. They had been couched with a respectful heart, but Thrall had never attempted this before. But when he opened his eyes he saw a white stag standing not two arms’ length in front of him. His companions seemed to see nothing. The stag’s eyes met Thrall’s, and the creature inclined its head. It bounded away, and Thrall saw that it left no trace in the snow.

“Follow me,” he said. His fellow Frostwolves did so at once, and they went some distance before they saw a large, healthy stag lying in the snow. One of its legs jutted out at an unnatural angle, and its soft brown eyes were rolling in terror. The snow all around it was churned up, and it was obvious that it was unable to rise.

Thrall approached it, instinctively sending out a message of calm. Do not fear, he told it. Your pain will soon be ended, and your life continue to have meaning. I thank you, Brother, for your sacrifice.

The deer relaxed, and lowered its head. Thrall touched its neck gently. Quickly to cause it no pain, he snapped the long neck. He looked up to see the others staring at him in awe. But he knew it was not by his will, but the deer’s, that his people would eat tonight.

“We will take this animal and consume its flesh. We will make tools from the bones and clothing from its hide. And in so doing, we will remember that it honoured us with this gift.”

(Golden, Lord of the Clans 2016)

Shamanism

One of the Orcs I am using for reference, Thrall, was a Shaman of the Frostwolf clan. I’m not sure yet whether my Orc character is going to be a shaman or not. If I choose to make him a shaman it will be important to take note of the additional shamanic accessories adorning these spiritual leaders.

Within the Frostwolf Clan, shamans are not just spiritual guides but also serve as leaders within the clan and custodians of history and tradition. They are chosen through a sacred rite, often involving a vision quest wherein the prospective shaman connects with the spirits of Draenor. Not all Orcs are capable of hearing the spirits, and a special ceremony sees prospective Shamans brought to sacred ground to test whether they can hear the Frostwolf spirits. Once chosen, they act as intermediaries between the clan and the elemental spirits, guiding their people in decisions both mundane and profound.

AI Idea Generation and Final Concept

"No'ku kil zil'nok ha tar"

Why use AI?

For this project, I have decided to use ChatGPT and Midjourney AI to assist with idea generation. ChatGPT and MidJourney AI can be incredibly useful tools to assist with coming up with concepts quickly as they can generate realistic images and descriptions at a speed beyond human capability.

ChatGPT is a language model that can generate text based on the prompts it is given. I have used ChatGPT to get inspiration for my concept by giving it prompts relating to Frostwolves, Orcs, and World of Warcraft. Using this tool has allowed me to generate many iterations of descriptions relating to character backstory, personality, and appearance.

MidJourney AI, on the other hand, is an AI-powered software that can create 2D images and visualisations. I have used MidJourney coupled with the refined output from ChatGPT to generate Concept Art images. These are not always very accurate and required many interactions, which I will use to inspire the creation of a final concept design.

The concepts I have produced using ChatGPT and Midjourney are far beyond what I could have hoped to create alone. I am incredibly grateful to have been allowed to use them as part of my Major Project. I believe it’s increasingly important for artists to learn to work with these emerging AI tools as they become more prevalent. As these tools continue to develop, I’m excited to see how they will change artists’ workflows and the creative industries.

Chat GPT Concept:

Appearance & Attributes: Drogath is an imposing Orc warrior standing over 7 feet tall and weighing more than 300 pounds. He has a deep brown skin tone and penetrating amber eyes. He has a large muscular build and four protruding tusks from his lower jaw. His tusks, adorned with rings and sharpened to a point, are both a weapon and a source of pride. Crowning his appearance is a thick beard covering his jaw and black hair tied neatly in a half knot at the back of his head.

Equipment: His battle-worn armour, lined with fur for protection against the cold, bears the emblem of the Frostwolf clan: a snarling wolf’s head surrounded by icicles. Each piece, from the fur-lined pauldrons with outward-extending spikes to the leather boots with metal plate reinforcements, reflects the clan’s mountainous homeland and is meticulously designed for mobility. His massive battleaxe, almost as tall as him, gifted by his mentor Thrakgar, is a symbol of his martial prowess and the trust bestowed upon him.

Character & Intelligence: Contrary to his intimidating facade, Drogath harbours a deep sense of loyalty, honour, and a penchant for nature. Fiercely protective of the Frostwolf clan, he’s not just a brute force in battle but a tactician, demonstrating an understanding of complex military strategies. Fluency in multiple languages like Common and Dwarvish, and a rich knowledge of history, philosophy, and literature, belies the stereotype of the brutish orc. Drogath’s sagacity has made him an advisor to many, a diplomat brokering peace amongst factions.

Combat Skills: On the battlefield, he is unstoppable. With his axe, a testament to his training under Thrakgar, he cleaves through opponents, merging raw strength with refined skill. Though his intellect is sharp, he values physical prowess just as much, knowing that battles are not won by intellect alone.

Legacy of the Scar: A deep scar runs from Drogath’s upper lip, through his left eye, a testament to a fierce skirmish in his younger days. Engaging a formidable foe, Drogath’s own axe was deflected to scar him, blinding his left eye. His life was spared by the timely intervention of Thrakgar and other Frostwolf warriors. Rather than a mark of defeat, Drogath wears this scar as a symbol of resilience, perseverance, and the unyielding spirit of the Frostwolf.

Mentorship: Thrakgar, a legendary Frostwolf warrior, recognized the potential in a young Drogath, gifting him the battleaxe that has since become synonymous with Drogath’s identity. After saving him from near death, Thrakgar nurtured Drogath’s skills, helping him become the warrior that he is today. Their bond, forged in the heat of battle and strengthened over time, has made Drogath a beacon of hope and strength for the Frostwolf clan.

Raw Chat GPT 3.5 Output:

Meet Grom’gar, a formidable Orc warrior born into the Frostwolf clan in the World of Warcraft universe. Grom’gar is a towering figure, standing at over 7 feet tall and weighing in at over 300 pounds of pure muscle. His broad shoulders and barrel chest give him an intimidating presence, and his massive arms and hands can easily crush an opponent with ease.

Grom’gar’s skin is a deep shade of green, weathered from years of battle and exposure to the elements. His face is rugged and chiseled, with sharp features that speak to his fierce nature. He has a large, broad nose and thick eyebrows that furrow when he is deep in thought.

Perhaps the most striking feature of Grom’gar is his impressive set of tusks. He has four tusks that protrude from his lower jaw, two on each side, each one sharp and deadly. His tusks are a source of pride for him, and he keeps them sharpened to a razor’s edge.

Grom’gar’s armor is made of thick plates of metal, with fur lining the edges to provide extra protection from the cold. The armor is battle-worn, with scratches and dents that attest to the many battles Grom’gar has fought and won. He carries a massive two-handed axe that is almost as tall as he is, with a blade that is sharp enough to cleave through bone and steel.

Despite his fearsome appearance, Grom’gar has a deep sense of loyalty and honor. He is fiercely protective of his clan and will stop at nothing to defend them from any threats. He has a deep love for the natural world and takes great pleasure in hunting and fishing in the wilds around his home.

In battle, Grom’gar is a force to be reckoned with. He charges into combat with reckless abandon, his axe swinging with deadly precision. He is a master of close-quarters combat and can hold his own against even the most skilled opponents.

Overall, Grom’gar is a formidable opponent and a true warrior in every sense of the word. His size, strength, and ferocity make him a force to be reckoned with, and his sense of honor and loyalty make him a valued member of the Frostwolf clan.

Certainly! Grom’gar’s intimidating appearance often leads others to underestimate his intelligence, but he is actually quite clever and strategic. He has a deep understanding of military tactics and can quickly assess a situation to determine the best course of action.

In addition to his combat skills, Grom’gar is well-educated and has a thirst for knowledge. He has spent countless hours studying history, philosophy, and literature, and is always eager to learn more. He is fluent in multiple languages, including Common and Dwarvish, which he learned in order to better communicate with allies and enemies alike.

Grom’gar’s intelligence has earned him the respect of many of his peers, who often turn to him for advice and guidance. He is a skilled diplomat and negotiator, and has helped to broker peace agreements between rival factions.

Despite his intellect, Grom’gar remains humble and down-to-earth. He knows that intelligence alone cannot win battles, and he relies on his physical prowess and combat skills just as much as his intellect. He is always looking for ways to improve himself, both in battle and in his personal life, and he encourages others to do the same.

Overall, Grom’gar’s combination of physical strength and intelligence makes him a formidable opponent both on and off the battlefield. He is respected by his allies and feared by his enemies, and his dedication to both his clan and his own personal growth make him a true leader among the Frostwolf.

Absolutely! Here’s a detailed character description of a fictional Orc from the World of Warcraft universe, born to the Frostwolf clan, with fur-lined armor, four tusks, an intelligent mind, and the name of Grom’gar:

However, what sets Grom’gar apart from other warriors is his intelligence. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is quite clever and strategic.

He is respected by his allies and feared by his enemies, and his dedication to both his clan and his own personal growth make him a true leader among the Frostwolf.

Certainly! Here is a detailed character description of a fictional Orc from the World of Warcraft universe, born to the Frostwolf clan and named Drogath:

Drogath is an Orc warrior of the Frostwolf clan, standing at an impressive 6’6″ and weighing 240 pounds. He has a muscular build, with broad shoulders and a powerful chest. His skin is a deep shade of green, and his eyes are a piercing shade of amber. He has a thick beard that covers his jawline and a full head of black hair that he keeps tied back in a simple ponytail.

Drogath’s armor is made of thick plates of metal, with fur lining the edges to provide extra protection from the cold. The armor is well-crafted and finely detailed, reflecting the time and care that Drogath has put into maintaining it. He carries a large, two-handed axe that he wields with deadly precision.

Despite his fearsome appearance and impressive combat skills, Drogath is also a highly intelligent and empathetic Orc. He possesses a deep understanding of the natural world and the interconnectedness of all living things. He is well-educated and well-read, with a particular interest in history and philosophy.

Drogath’s empathy and compassion extend not only to his fellow Orcs but also to the other inhabitants of Azeroth. He has a deep respect for nature and all of its creatures and will go out of his way to help anyone in need, regardless of their race or faction.

In battle, Drogath is a fierce warrior who fights with honor and integrity. He possesses a keen tactical mind and is able to quickly assess a situation to determine the best course of action. He is an expert in close-quarters combat, able to hold his own against even the most skilled opponents. He is also skilled in ranged combat, able to accurately throw his weapon at targets from great distances.

Drogath’s intelligence and empathy make him a respected leader among his peers. He is a skilled diplomat and negotiator, able to bring warring factions to the negotiating table and find common ground. He is also a mentor to many of the younger Orcs in his clan, taking the time to teach them the importance of empathy and compassion in a world that often rewards brute strength over emotional intelligence.

Overall, Drogath is a unique and well-rounded character who combines impressive physical strength with a sharp mind and a kind heart. He is a true leader among the Frostwolf clan, respected by his allies and feared by his enemies. His dedication to both his clan and his own personal growth make him an invaluable member of the Horde.

Sure, here is a more detailed description of Drogath’s armor:

Drogath’s armor is made of thick plates of metal, forged from the finest ores found in the mountains surrounding his clan’s homeland. The plates are intricately crafted to fit his body, providing maximum protection while still allowing for a full range of movement.

The chest plate is the centerpiece of the armor, featuring an embossed image of the Frostwolf clan’s emblem – a snarling wolf’s head surrounded by icicles. The plate is lined with fur along the edges, providing warmth in the frigid climate of his homeland.

The pauldrons, or shoulder guards, are also lined with fur and feature sharp spikes that extend outwards from the edges. The spikes are not just for decoration – they can be used to impale opponents in close combat.

The gauntlets, or handguards, are similarly lined with fur and feature heavy metal plates that cover the back of the hands and fingers. The fingers are able to move freely, allowing for maximum dexterity when wielding weapons.

The leg guards are made of several plates that wrap around the thighs and shins. Like the other pieces of armor, they are lined with fur for warmth. The lower leg guards feature small spikes along the edges that can be used to strike opponents in close combat.

The boots are made of thick leather, reinforced with metal plates. They are also lined with fur for warmth and provide excellent traction on slippery surfaces.

Overall, Drogath’s armor is an impressive piece of craftsmanship that reflects both his clan’s heritage and his own personal style. It is well-maintained and cared for, a testament to his dedication to his own protection and the protection of his clan.

Certainly! Here is Drogath’s backstory explaining how he got the scar that runs from his upper lip across the left side of his face and through his left eye, which has left him blinded in that eye:

Drogath was born into the Frostwolf clan and from a young age, he showed great promise as a warrior. He trained tirelessly with his fellow Orcs, honing his combat skills and developing his tactical mind.

One day, when Drogath was on a scouting mission with a group of other warriors, they were ambushed by a group of gnolls. The fight was intense and chaotic, with both sides taking heavy casualties. In the heat of battle, Drogath found himself face to face with a particularly vicious gnoll.

The gnoll was armed with a serrated blade and moved with lightning speed. Drogath parried the first few strikes but then made a critical error – he hesitated for just a moment, allowing the gnoll to get the upper hand. The gnoll struck out with its blade, catching Drogath across the face and blinding him in his left eye.

Despite the injury, Drogath refused to give up. He fought on with a ferocity that surprised even his fellow warriors. The gnoll was eventually defeated, but the cost was high – many of Drogath’s fellow warriors had been killed or severely wounded.

Drogath was left with a permanent reminder of that fateful battle – a scar that ran from his upper lip, across the left side of his face, and through his left eye. The injury was severe enough that he lost the sight in that eye, but he refused to let it hold him back. He continued to train and fight alongside his fellow Orcs, determined to make up for his mistake and prove his worth as a warrior.

The scar and the injury have become a defining characteristic of Drogath, serving as a constant reminder of the dangers and sacrifices that come with being a warrior. Despite the loss of his sight in one eye, Drogath has learned to compensate and has become even more attuned to his other senses, making him an even more formidable opponent on the battlefield.

Certainly! Here is a backstory for how Drogath got his scar:

The scar that runs from Drogath’s upper lip across the left-hand side of his face and through his left eye is a constant reminder of a battle he fought many years ago. Drogath was still a young Orc when he first joined the Frostwolf clan, eager to prove himself as a skilled warrior and gain the respect of his peers.

During a skirmish with a rival clan, Drogath found himself facing off against an opponent much larger and stronger than himself. Despite being outmatched, Drogath refused to back down and fought with all his might. The battle was fierce, and both combatants exchanged blow after blow.

In a moment of desperation, Drogath lunged forward with his axe, hoping to land a decisive blow. But his opponent was ready for him and managed to deflect the attack with a swift movement of his own weapon. The axe struck Drogath’s own face, carving a deep gash that ran from his upper lip through his left eye, leaving him blinded in that eye.

Drogath fell to the ground, writhing in pain as his opponent moved in for the final blow. But just as the enemy’s blade was about to strike, a group of Frostwolf warriors arrived on the scene, led by Drogath’s mentor and friend.

The Frostwolf warriors quickly turned the tide of the battle, overwhelming the enemy and driving them back. Drogath was rushed back to his clan’s encampment, where he received medical attention for his injuries. Despite losing his left eye, he survived the ordeal and emerged stronger and more determined than ever before.

From that day forward, Drogath wore his scar with pride, seeing it not as a mark of shame but as a symbol of his resilience and courage. The experience taught him the importance of never giving up, no matter how dire the circumstances may seem. It also reinforced his dedication to the Frostwolf clan and his determination to protect his people at all costs.

Sure, here is Drogath’s regenerated character description:

Drogath is an adult male orc born to the Frostwolf clan in the World of Warcraft universe. He stands tall at 7 feet and has a muscular build. He has brown skin, which contrasts with his piercing blue eyes. He has short tusks that protrude from his lower jaw, giving him a fierce appearance.

One notable feature of Drogath’s appearance is the scar that runs from his upper lip across the left-hand side of his face, through his left eye, leaving him blinded in that eye. The scar is a result of a battle he fought when he was young, where he was struck by his opponent’s weapon.

Drogath is a highly intelligent and empathetic orc, known for his strategic mind and his ability to read others’ emotions. He is a natural leader, respected and admired by his fellow Frostwolves for his wisdom and his courage.

Drogath’s weapon of choice is a massive battleaxe with a sharp edge and a heavy, blunt end. The axe is a gift from his mentor, a legendary Frostwolf warrior named Thrakgar. Thrakgar saw potential in Drogath when he was still a young orc, and took him under his wing, training him in the ways of combat and strategy.

After years of training and honing his skills, Drogath proved himself worthy of Thrakgar’s trust and was gifted the battleaxe as a symbol of his achievement. The weapon has since become an extension of Drogath’s own strength and determination, imbued with the spirit of his mentor’s teachings.

Thrakgar is a revered figure in the Frostwolf clan, known for his bravery and his unwavering dedication to his people. He was the one who saved Drogath’s life during the battle where he received his scar, and from that day forward, the two formed a deep bond that would last a lifetime.

Sure, here’s an AI image prompt based on Drogath:

The image shows Drogath, an adult male orc with brown skin, short tusks, and a scar that runs from his upper lip across the left-hand side of his face and through his left eye, leaving him blinded in that eye. He wears armor lined with fur, which protects his body and provides warmth in the harsh winter climate of his homeland.

In one hand, Drogath grips a massive battleaxe with a sharp edge and a heavy, blunt end, gifted to him by his mentor, a legendary Frostwolf warrior named Thrakgar. The weapon is a symbol of Drogath’s strength and determination, imbued with the spirit of his mentor’s teachings.

Despite his fierce appearance, Drogath’s face reflects his intelligence and empathy, traits that have earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow Frostwolves. In the background of the image, we see the rugged terrain of his homeland, covered in snow and ice, and dotted with the occasional rocky outcrop or tree.

As Drogath gazes out into the distance, his expression is one of determination and focus. He knows that the fate of his people rests on his shoulders, and he is ready to do whatever it takes to protect his clan and defeat their enemies.

Sure, here’s an image prompt based on the visual elements of Drogath’s description:

The image shows an adult male orc with brown skin and short tusks, wearing armor lined with fur. His face is scarred, with a long mark running from his upper lip across the left-hand side of his face and through his left eye, leaving him blinded in that eye. He is holding a massive battleaxe in his right hand, which is designed with a sharp edge and a heavy, blunt end. The weapon looks like it has been well-used and has many nicks and scars of its own. In the background, we see a rugged, snow-covered landscape, with rocky outcroppings and trees scattered throughout. The orc’s expression is focused and determined, and there is a sense of strength and resilience in his stance.

The Orc’s name is Hrugok, born to the Frostwolf clan in the frigid tundras of Alterac Valley. He stands tall and broad-shouldered, his muscular frame towering over most of his peers at nearly seven feet tall. His skin is a deep shade of green, tanned by the unforgiving sun and the biting cold.

Hrugok’s armor is a testament to his resourcefulness, constructed from leather and metal scraps, and lined with thick fur to protect him from the harsh elements. His helmet is adorned with the tusks of a fierce Clefthoof, a trophy from a hunt he participated in as a young warrior.

Despite his intimidating appearance, Hrugok possesses a sharp intellect and an unwavering empathy towards his fellow Orcs. He is a skilled strategist, with a talent for devising cunning battle plans that have proven successful time and time again.

His face bears the scars of countless battles, but his bright amber eyes exude a sense of calm and understanding. His voice is deep and commanding, but also soothing and reassuring when needed.

Hrugok’s weapons of choice are a pair of hand-crafted axes, their edges sharpened to a razor’s edge. He wields them with deadly precision, but never takes pleasure in the act of killing. Instead, he sees it as a necessary evil in the face of a world filled with conflict.

Despite his fierce nature and his status as a battle-hardened warrior, Hrugok is a gentle soul at heart. He is fiercely loyal to his clan and his people, and will stop at nothing to protect them from harm.

Grom’gar is an adult male Orc from the Frostwolf clan. He stands at an imposing height of seven feet and has a muscular build that speaks to his strength and power. He has thick, brown skin that is weathered and lined with scars, a testament to his many battles fought in the name of the Horde. His eyes are a striking amber color, bright and intense, with a keen intelligence that belies his ferocious appearance.

One of his most defining features is the scar that runs across his left eye and ends at his lip, a souvenir of a battle fought against the Alliance. Despite the severity of the injury, he bears it with pride, a reminder of his strength and resilience in the face of adversity.

Grom’gar’s armor is adorned with fur, a nod to his Frostwolf heritage. It is a heavy plate mail that provides him with both protection and intimidation, with spikes and sharp edges that add to his fearsome appearance. His weapon of choice is a massive war axe, given to him by his mentor, Thrakgar, a revered member of the clan and an accomplished warrior in his own right.

Despite his fearsome appearance and reputation, Grom’gar is a deeply empathetic and intelligent individual. He is not one to resort to violence unnecessarily, preferring instead to use his wit and intellect to solve problems whenever possible. He is a skilled strategist, able to analyze complex situations and come up with innovative solutions that others might not consider.

Thrakgar, his mentor, is someone whom he looks up to and respects deeply. He owes his life to him, having been saved by Thrakgar during the battle where he received his scar. It was Thrakgar who gave him his weapon, recognizing his potential as a warrior and leader among their people.

All in all, Grom’gar is a formidable and complex character, with a rich history and a depth of personality that belies his fearsome appearance. His intelligence, empathy, and resilience make him a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the battlefield.

Grom’gar’s thick, brown skin is weathered and scarred, with visible veins and muscles that ripple beneath the surface. His prominent brow and strong jawline give him a fierce and intimidating look, while his thick, black hair is kept in dreadlocks that are adorned with tribal beads and feathers.

His amber eyes are piercing and intense, with a subtle gleam that suggests a keen intellect and a deep sense of determination. The scar that runs across his left eye is jagged and severe, a deep red against his brown skin, and it draws the eye with its severity. The scar continues down his cheek and ends at his lip, creating a slight asymmetry in his features that only adds to his intimidating presence.

Grom’gar’s armor is a heavy plate mail that is lined with thick fur, providing both protection from the elements and added warmth in the harsh Frostwolf climate. The armor is adorned with intricate etchings and carvings, each one telling a story of a battle won or a victory earned. Spikes and sharp edges protrude from various points on the armor, adding to his fearsome appearance.

His war axe is a massive weapon, with a sharp, curved blade that glints in the light. The handle is made of a sturdy wood that has been wrapped in strips of leather for added grip, while the blade itself is etched with intricate designs and runes that suggest a deep sense of tradition and history.

Despite his imposing appearance, Grom’gar carries himself with a sense of quiet confidence and a regal bearing. His movements are fluid and graceful, suggesting a deep sense of discipline and control. His voice is deep and resonant, with a hint of gravel that speaks to his years of battle and hardship.

Thrakgar, his mentor, is a tall and imposing figure, with a deep, booming voice that commands respect. He wears a similar armor to Grom’gar’s, with fur lining the edges and intricate designs etched into the metal. His weapon is a massive hammer, the head of which is adorned with intricate etchings and carvings that suggest a deep sense of honor and tradition.
